Information on age, mental health (including the number of individuals considered "insane"), education, caste systems, and occupations offered insights into society. Urban-rural divides, progress trends, and educational details at different administrative levels were documented. The census even delved into specifics such as the occupation of adult males in larger towns and the demographics of Europeans and Eurasians.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

H. Beverley served as an administrator during the British Raj and was entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the census operations in Calcutta. Under the authorization of the police commissioner, the census-taking process in each ward or police section was supervised by the respective police inspector. H. Beverley received full support from the government machinery and successfully carried out the census with their cooperation.

J.W. Neill, as Secretary to the Chief Commissioner of the Central Provinces, served as the Census Officer for the 1871 census. Clear instructions on enumeration procedures were provided in a 1871 circular, and these instructions were diligently followed in all districts. Mr. Neill meticulously adhered to these guidelines, successfully overseeing and completing the census operations. His efforts culminated in the successful compilation of the 1871 census data, contributing significantly to the administration and understanding of the region during that time.

A.Sankariah held the position of dewan peishkar in the Cochin state and was appointed as the census officer for the 1871 census. The entire workforce employed for this task was placed under the supervision of Shungoonny Manadinair, who served as the Registrar. The responsibility of tabulating the census results and preparing the report was assigned to Mr. A. Sankariah, the Dewan Peishkar. He successfully completed the statistical work and efficiently managed the census operation for the 1871 census.

A.W.C. Lindsay served as a British Raj administrative officer, tasked with overseeing the census office in Mysore and Coorg. He submitted reports to the Chief Commissioner of Coorg, and the province's calculations relied on the Coorg survey work conducted by Lieutenant Connors and the Gazetteer of the Province, which was compiled in 1870 by E. Richter. Lindsay's role was crucial in gathering vital data and information for the administration of these regions during the British colonial era.

W.R. Cornish served as a British Raj administrative officer, holding the position of Sanitary Commissioner for the Town of Madras. He was also tasked with overseeing the census operations. With the assistance of Mr. Kalyanassondaram Chetty as his assistant and the General Census Officer, Cornish worked on organizing the tabular data. He took personal responsibility for a portion of the work and submitted his compilation to the relevant authorities for the Census of India. Cornish played a crucial role in this important data-gathering endeavor.

William Chichele Plowden:- (1832-1915) was a civil servant and member of Legislative council in India and Subsequently. a liberal politician who sat in the House of comman from 1886 to 1892.He was in Bengal civil sevice as census commissioner for India and secretary of the board of revenue of the north West Provinces.He was also a member of the legislature council in Calcutta.In 1886 he was knighted as KCSI.

J. Charles Williams, an administrator during the British Raj, held the position of assistant settlement officer and was entrusted with overseeing the census report in Seetapur. He submitted the 1871 census report on December 9, 1869, to the relevant authorities. This comprehensive report was organized into four sections: firstly, providing initial area and population estimates; secondly, detailing the methods employed by local authorities in different districts to conduct the census; thirdly, offering an in-depth examination of seven sets of tables displaying census results; and fourthly, addressing miscellaneous points not covered by the census tables. Williams played a pivotal role in this vital data-gathering effort.
